In Response to Challenges and Joys of being a caregiver by ARobinson86
You should be commended for taking such good care of your grandmother, and now, her friend! That is a big job for anyone, and you are so young to have this tremendous responsibility!
You are handling your stress by first, acknowledging it, and looking for ways to reduce or eliminate it. You do need a break, and you need to know that the break will come regularly and be enough time for you to concentrate on "YOU".
Take a look at some ways to find some helpers to come in occasionally to alleviate some of the duties, and to give you a much needed break. There may be some places that offer day care for elderly, too.
Some places to start looking are, family, friends, your community's office on aging, and churches in your community. It wont' be an overnight solution, and may take some time , but, it is needed, and you can find someone.
Good luck to you! And, let us know how it is going, please!
When did you begin the caretaking?
