Just totally frustrated and don't know where to start on this post....a few questions and a bit of rant.
My dad has advanced Alzheimer Disorder, mom has recently experienced moderately severe back pain along with hypotension that result in episodes of fainting and weakness. My sister and I try our best to be with them, we both work full-time, I'm about 100 miles away and my sister is local. We are scared that if mom faints/falls Dad will not think to phone for help since his cognitive level has declined so much. We've discussed assisted living and are looking into that, they are resistant to moving and I certainly understand their feelings.
In the meantime we are trying to find an agency for home provider services, this has been the most frustrating thing I've ever tackled; they live in a small town, Livingston, TX, with little resources. Private agencies that we've contacted tells us they have the services but we need to go through DADS to qualify to recieve assistance. We've completed the paperwork and 6 weeks later we are still waiting on an answer. Mom had a hosptialization last week and we phoned 2-1-1 for acute assistance, they took our info and said 2-3 weeks before they could get back to us. We've offered to pay agencies privately, same thing - we'll get back to you. We have phoned their PCP several times and have had no call back to date so we are trying to get together on a date to visit his office and "ambush" him just so we can get his feedback/suggestions.
I'm nervous about hiring a private caregiver because of lack of background checks, supervision, dependability, etc. but may have to go that route if these other resources fall through.
Has anyone gone through this type of situation and if so, what resolution did you find? Any suggestions are welcome as we continue this quest. We just need help.
