This is the one year anniversary of our investments with American Equity Investment Life Insurance Company. This is th time when year end statements are to be mailed and, more importantly, tax returns. The statements of our accounts arrived first and they looked, well, strange, when compared to those received from companies like Schwab, Fidelity, Dreyfus or Vanguard. But it got worse. My wife rolled over two IRAs to contribute to their inversment vehicle and expected an elaborate 2010Form5498 for tax purposes. Did she get that? Nooooo. Instead, she is not the recipient of a paper document that provided that the FMV of the transfer will be reported to the IRS on 2010Form5498. It's totally useless for this tax year. Worse, the document looks like it could have been generated on the printer of someone's home office setup.
I hope that I didn't make a mistake investing with American Equity Investment Life Insurance Company, but I may well have. :-(
