BOSTON (FOX25, myfoxboston) - Vulnerable veterans are suffering as they wait for benefits from an overwhelmed and inefficient Veterans Administration, the vets and their advocates say, and many are worried the backlog is only going to get worse.
"The VA is just dragging this out and dragging it out," said John Wypyszinski of Millis, a Navy veteran who had been waiting nearly two years to get his disability claim approved. "It's gotten to the point where I see letterhead that says JFK Federal Building and the VA's logo on it, I cringe because I don't know what they want next."

I had a hearing, for lack of better words, for "residual" effects of an injury that happened 30 years ago. I can understand why the appointment was so quick, it was moronic. When I listed the residual effects, I was very specific but, the orders were also very specific; "has the original condition gotten worse?"
Two points on this: the condition was permanent, how does that get worse? They could have sent a post card as permanently damaged is pretty much self explanatory. Second; they refused to assess the complications or residual [I do not think they know what the word means] effects I listed. After the exam, they acknowledged them and indicated they felt those were also permanent but, were not in the orders from the VA Representative so no comments would be made in the report.
The final insult to my intelligence was getting a letter saying they needed more time to reach a decision. This I have to figure out. The PA spent 8 minutes, looked at paralized body parts and "yep" they are paralyzed. No more paralyzed than before, just how much time does "we are not doing anymore for you" take.
I do not regret serving our country and feel for those that suffered worse than I but, I hate talking the VSO and the VA as they make me feel like and unwanted dregg of society. I think the entire system needs reviewed and upgraded with individuals that can at least show respect and give dignity and not act like you are lucky they are giving you a moment of time.
