It may seem strange, but many children born to servicemen and women who are career military people serve in the military also. My father entered the service in March 1941 and actually received a draft notice in 1943, while serving in a combat zone! My oldest brother entered service in 1969 and I too entered the military in 1971. Dad went into the reserves after 26 years on active duty (WW II, Korea, & Vietnam). When he retired from the reserves in 1973 my brother was an E-5 in the reserves and I was an E-4 on active duty. Of my childhood friends (all GI Brats) many served in the military and a few also made careers of the military. My daughter was born while I was on active duty, thus she is also a GI Brat who spent time in the military.
Any other GI Brats out there?
GI Brat and proud of it!
Gouch, your family certainly have served our country. I am a veteran of a veteran, my dad was in the AF and I served in the Marine Corps. Others in my family were two uncles, navy and army WWII, a brother in the AF, two cousins AF and Marine Corps.
