I live in a little upstate New York town which has no bus or train connections to anywhere. If we want to catch a train, we have to drive 2 hours to Syracuse. And our bus connections are so bad we have to change busses several times to get anywhere. Consequently, we fly everywhere.
I try to visit my daughter in Arkansas a few times a year. I'm going down in May for her wedding and the cost is over $600! Luckily, I got a $200 tax return, will hopefully get a $300 tax rebate and $100 from serving on the jury last month. That should cover it.
I found out over the weekend that my son and his family will most likely be moving to Dallas this year. Then my trips south will be huge. Bentonville to visit my daughter and her two daughters, Dallas to visit my son and his four children and Salina, KS to visit my mother-in-law. I'll be gone for months at a time! Good thing I'm retired!
I've had ZERO luck trying to post here today. I'll make this very short.
I just wanted to butt in here and mention that I've been to your neck of the woods many times. My sister Evie (Evelyn) taught school in Oswego for many years. Before she moved there, she was a Franciscan nun for 18 years. After she left the convent, she took a job teaching in Oswego, met a nice guy, and they would have been married 25 years in April, 2002, but she had breast cancer and died right after Christmas, 2001. Those are harsh winters up there!
