I currently volunteer at our local Red Cross - doing computer input for the woman in charge of all of the training. I've learned that our local Red Cross uses all volunteers to answer the phone and help folks sign up for training, etc.
In addition, I have met a couple of women who are leaving tomorrow morning to help out in TX with the aftermath of Ike. One of them told me that this is her 8th trip to help out at a disaster site. She loves it! The Red cross provides everything = plane ticket/motel/meals/cars/credit card/etc. This woman said she was moping around at home (alone senior) and decided to get involved with something - and she got a whole new lease on life. She has new friends from all over the USA - other regular volunteers.
Another friend (recently divorced late) volunteers at the Courthouse. They use volunteers to deliver documents within the Courthouse, etc. I know no training is required. Now she knows a lot of the Judges!
Thank you so much for the information. If and when I do retire, that would be up my alley.
(health permitting). Late Life Divorce is quite an impact on my retirement pensions.
