Mediation was a piece o' cake & I'm glad we didn't have separate lawyers fighting over stuff. We were just told to go away, make a list of what our monthly expenses would be, then went back next week & I got enough spousal support to cover those expenses & more. Plus I INSISTED on still being his beneficiary on life insurance policy. Lawyer originally said, "That's never done," but with persistence, I got 50% of six-figure policy with kids splitting the other half. I'd be DARNED if I'd give 30 years to a marriage & get nothing, while somebody else could be with him 5 years & he keels over (never happened, unfortunately.....I'm KIDDING, I'm KIDDING!) & then get $300K. I don't THINK so!!!
I cried the first session.....could barely make myself stop; but a few meetings after that (on advice from friend), I dressed to the nines (which for me was longish skirt with boots, makeup, some kind of top....looked pretty good). Got a compliment & my response to his question was, "I'm going down to Austin." (Actually, had to go to a plumbing place to get a part, but he didn't have to know that.)
Anyway, compared with other's attorney vs. attorney situations, this worked out great.
Good luck to you.
Sounds like you did okay - I am glad that you were able to have several mediation gatherings - I think that one does need to gather their figures and think about the issues and not finish every decision in a 4 hours timeframe.
Take care and keep us posted on your doings!
