my first job was at safeway in Texas. I was 16 years old, and very shy up to this point. I quickly picked up on greeting people and smiling, and met friends who would remain lifelong friends! While employed at the store, I quickly moved up the ranks from bagger, to checker, to service desk. Very valuable work ethics were learned, and I have fond memories to this day of working there.
It was at this first job, I discovered the power of humor in the workforce, not to the point of being unproductive, but to cheer coworkers up, and make customers smile. Those little things helped me throughout the rest of my jobs to be more personable, and fun to be around.
The camraderie we enjoyed went far beyond the workplace, and soon four of us were life long friends, and enjoyed many events, such as sports, concerts, and company picnics. I could have done a whole lot worse my first time out, but as it was, It set the tone for the rest of my jobs, and I think made them all more enjoyable!
