Yes, I used to line-skate 10 years ago. It gives you a high just like good dancing. However, I became too enterprising skating down hill, fell and almost broke my tail bone and my wrist. Good thing I had a wrist and elbow guards. since then I have skated once, five years ago. I decided outside skating is not for me. And I'm still fearful of breaking a bone. I still have my skates, though. I have a friend who is nudging me to go back to it. We'll see.
The one thing I should have done before starting to skate is learn how to balance. If I had balance-trained myself it would have been much easier. Skating is all about balancing. You can start with all sorts of balancing - standing with one leg, some yoga poses, etc. Check out a skating book from the library - it will give you some pointers. Then, go to a skating rink and rent skates until you are confident about skating. You will know when to buy your own skates.
Tell us how it goes. Good luck!
Thank you so much for replying. I just spoke to a fitness instructor and she told me that skating is the best exercise for total body. The problem as you said, not too many people can balance themselves. I'm working on it though. I do want to get outside for some fitness activities. Maybe I have cabin fever. This seems to be a long winter.
Have a great day, and thank you for your thoughts
