I am fortunate to have a friend that visits from Tokyo occasionally. On her first visit she bought me a gift that I have been using regularly for a number of years. It is a Zojirushi rice steamer. I later check on the steamer and found it to be about $120.00!! A way more than I would have paid for a steamer, but it is great. You can get a decent rice steamer for around $20.00.
Jasmine white rice 5 ounces Chicken thigh meat 6 to 8 ounces cooked and medium chopped OR Pork chop or steak cooked and medium chopped 2 medium green onions, sliced cross ways 1 celery stalk, thin sliced cross ways 1/4 green bell pepper, coarse chopped Soy souse (optional)
In the rice steamer place 1/2 cup of water and add the celery and bell pepper. Cover and steam veggies for 5 or 6 minutes. Remove the excess water and put the veggies aside in a bowl. Rinse the steamer. To the steamer add rice and an equal amount of water. Steam for time specified for the cooker (about 15 minutes). Leave steamer on and open lid and fluff up the rice with tool supplied with the cooker, or a wooden kitchen tool. Close lid and leave for 5 minutes. Open lid, add meat and veggies and stir into the rice and serve. Makes enough for 2 decent sized meals.
The rice steamer can be used for a number of things beside steaming rice.
