Hi, I'm in Missouri, and the weather here can't decide what it wants to do yet. We have a few days in the teens and 20's and then we have a few days in the 60's and then back again. As far as the beak goes, I understand that some Avian Vets will grind down a beak and some won't. If you're not sure about the recommendations of your vet, you can always get another opinion. What kind of bird is it? Dulcinea's cage sits in front of my big front window. She waits for people from the complex to walk by to their cars and says, "hi.......hi......hi". She's a pretty good girl and I love her very much too. I got her right after I lost my husband in '97 and she has been a wonderful companion ever since. Good luck with your baby. I know there's a list online somewhere of Avian Vets, let me know if you need the web address and I'll do what I can.
Thank you for the information. I'm actually going back to the original shop where the original owner bought him. They have a vet, and I can't find the name. I've had Igor eight years, and he's survived my cat as a kitten. She used to get on top of his cage and swipe at him, so I had to move him to a place where she couldn't get on top of the cage. I don't think she realized that he could shred her paw. When she was an adult, I found her one day on the floor, standing up and doing a paw over paw to avoid his beak. That was a few years ago, and she hasn't tried anything since. I know that cats are poisonous to birds, so I really watch her, and when I go out of town, I remind my son and his daughters who take care of him. I haven't handled him a lot for awhile, so he's got some bad habits. As soon as my life settles better, I'm going to start working with him again. I can shut the dog and cat in the bedroom and take him out to play. He talks constantly, and will repeat, "Good morning!" until I answer him. It's too funny. He IS good company and makes me laugh, which is always a good thing.
