What kind of thinking do you do while walking? Is it spiritual: such as contemplating, meditating? Emotional: perhaps experiencing happy thoughts or dealing with frustration? Or intellectual: may be problem solving, being creative or simply list making.
Now that is a multi-faceted question!
Where am I walking? Who am I walking with? Why am I walking?
I love to walk and just take in the vistas around me while walking with the dogs. This is at a fair clip and mostly my thoughts are planning the day that lies ahead.
When walking with friends, it's a joyful experience with all topics discussed and all the world's problems solved, generally with much laughter.
I often walk when I am upset or worried. Then I am problem solving, contemplative. and generally relieving stress to better focus on the issue at hand.
Now, when walking on the treadmill I am all business. I have a goal and am trying to best achieve it, daily challenging myself to push farther and go just a bit more than the day before. This I usually done to really upbeat music that keeps my feet pounding to the beat and to steal a phrase...sweating to the oldies! Little thought is involved. I talk to myself and cheer when I go an extra few minutes or go up a level on my incline.
