Hi All. We just joined the group because we recently sold our house and plan to travel the USA for a couple years. We currenly have a Monaco LaPalma class A gas motor home which is great but just too small. I am now shopping and becoming confused!!! We have 2 adult kids that may visit us so we need sleeping room for them if possible. Also, thinking large refreer and at least 3 slides. My real question is gas or diesel???? I am seeing a lot of 38 ft gas units now with a lot of room. I would love to hear some thoughts on this. Also, have a great little 32 foot class A LaPalma for sale if anyone wants pictures. Thanks for your ideas.
Hi- This topic interests me as we’re in the process of purchasing an 08 Monaco Cayman XL. We’ve shopped around a lot and did a lot of homework. One of our qualifications for a motor home was that the coach has a fiber glass roof. We found a great coach at camping world with comfy floor plan - but nixed it because of the rubber roof.
We prefer diesel because of the smoother ride (in our opinion).
The internet has helped lots! It’s so easy to comparison shop by clicking the dealers’ web sites and haggling price via email as opposed to going to the dealership in person and becoming confused by seeing so many different units at one time---when physically going to a dealership, after a while, we forgot what we saw. I have a large file on my computer with all types of coaches that I cut and pasted on microsoft word documents - I have my own personal catalog of coaches in my state! Some of them are darn good deals!
Some other reasons we choose the 08 Monaco Cayman: Monaco’s great reputation. This coach has an oven and a convection microwave oven. Most of the coaches we looked at didn’t have a separate oven - most coaches we looked at had only the microwave convection oven. The main reason: THE PRICE! It is a buyer’s market right now & great deals can be found.
We found a gently used 08 Journey with more of the features we prefer versus the Cayman - but when it came down to the dollars - we went with the Cayman. As far as I know, the Journey is still for sale.
I see you posted almost two months ago - so maybe by now - you’ve already made your choice!
Happy Traveling. KaTe
