In Response to RE: Saving on Education by slee15
Accounting is one of the 'in demand' fields and projected to be growing faster than most fields. So, he definitely needs that CPA (which is almost a 'standard' credential for anyone to take you seriously) and even if he is not a practicing CPA, needs that 'paper'.
It's another field so many people are not going into, or drop out of after taking a few classes, as it's very detail and numbers oriented. Many people cannot get the CPA either --- lot of long hours studying. Wife really got hung up on Business Law section (CPA review course and lots of studying finally got her 'the paper'). But, if he gets the basics at comm college, good study habits, enjoys the field, he'll do fine and come out with little debt and good prospects.
