In the past 6 years my Mom & an Aunt passed away, leaving me with all their "stuff". The bulk has been given away, but now as I have my house on the market, I'd like to give away more specialized things .. and no one wants to take them! Organizations like Salvation Army & Goodwill expect things to be in very good or excellent condition .. if they were in pristine condition, I probably wouldn't be trying to get rid of them! Many groups won't take medical equipment like a commode, for fear of what the last user might have had. Some organizations wouldn't provide pickup, even before the price of gas was this high, and these items often don't fit in car trunk. If you have a garage sale, people want stuff that's almost new.
How do you find the people who really need things, are willing to fix them up themselves, and would be just a little appreciative?!
In our rural area, we have a town dump site where they offer an area, off to the side, where people can leave re-usable items for others to pick up. It's called the "swap shed" and it's a really popular place. It doesn't cost a thing and good items are picked up by people who can make use of them.
