dear Blueslady, here's a recipe similar to the Peach Cream Pie. Rather than heavy cream you use evaporated milk. I've made this pie more years then I care to tell you and just recently for the 4th.
Dutch-Style Strawberry Rhubarb Pie
Pastry for double crust pie
1 1/2 cups sliced raw rhubarb
2 cups sliced fresh strawberries
1 cup sugar
5 Tbls flour
4 Teaspoons cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
2/3 cup undiluted evaporated milk
1. Roll out half of pastry and line a 9-inch pie plate. Mix rhubarb and strawberies and put in pastry shell.
2. In a medium sized mixing bowl, combine sugar, flour, cornstarch and nutmeg. Gradually add evaporated milk, stirring to mix well. Pour over rhubarb and strawberries in pastry shell.
3. Roll out remaing pastry and cut into 1/2 inch strips. Use to make a lattice top on pie. Seal edges of pastry around rim of pie and bake it at 400 degrees for 25 minutes; then reduce heat to 375 and bake about 35 more minutes, or until done.
I think you'll love this!
Thank you ladies, I appreciate the recipes very much. I bought several strawberry, hanging plants fot my patios, they are pretty, grow fast, spead quickly, and a bonus is the nice flowers, and fruit. Right now, I have a lot of both. Tomatoes are all coming on at once, I planted every three weeks to vary stages of growth, but lots of grape and cherry , a a few big boys all together.
