Hi -- I'm looking for a recipe that I had years ago and misplaced. I'm not exactly sure what it was called, so don't know where to search for it.
Actually, Gene's recipe for sourdough "starter" reminded me of it, and I'd like to see if anyone here knows what I'm talking about. I think it was called a "starter" of some kind . . .
Someone one time gave me a large glass container with a variety of fruit in it (I think they were just store-bought canned fruits) . . . with it came a recipe that told you to put some kind of liquor in it (brandy perhaps) every so often, and when to add fruit . . . the idea was that you could use it to top ice cream or pound cake, etc., and then just keeping replenishing the jar. You could also break it into smaller portions and give it as a gift to other people with a copy of the recipe. It was a great idea (except for the part where I didn't follow through!) . . . anyone know of something like this, or what it's called?
Thanks, everyone! I think perhaps the recipe Gene found is the closest to what I remember . . . and the term "Friendship Dessert" seems to ring a bell now that I think about it.
So the "plan" is to hold on to this recipe now and make several jars up in late summer and get them going in time for Christmas next year.
