I absolutely would love to have your recipe for home made vanilla extract. I just love anything that calls for vanilla. Let me know if I can help you any further with your navigating. I just wished I worked with you so I could also benefit from your great recipes. Your friend, Zil
I love it...the stories, the food, the recipes!! But it sounds like someone's been in the corn mash, lol. Speaking of, if anyone is interested, I make home made vanilla extract with moohshine, vanilla beans and clear kayro syrup. If i can't get the moonshine, and its only about 6 oz...i use Absolut vodka. I collect old liquor bottles and I have an Old Crow whiskey bottle that's been perfect in which to brew the extract. All you have to do is split and scrape 2-3 vanilla beans into about 6 oz of Absolut vodka. Chop up the remaining bean and put it in the liquor, too. Screw the cap on and gently shake the bottle every day for a few months. It'll start to turn a caramel color and of course, you'll need to sample it to make sure the flavor is developing. I put my finger over the top of the bottle and then lick it (my finger) to see how strong the brew is. When the flavor is where I like it, I add just enough clear Kayro syrup to sweeten it a little bit. As you use the extract, top if off with more liquor and another scraped and chopped up vanilla bean. You'll never buy vanilla extract again after making it. There's no comparison. Enjoy!
