In Response to RE: SPECIAL LOCATIONS which evoke WONDERFUL MEMORIES! by BrendanBrat
Hi Bren, I don't remember Swan Boats in Central Park although they could have been there. I do remember Pedal Boats, and my legs getting tired. I also remember begging and begging my parents to let me row the rowboat. As we past another rowboat, I could hear, or heard in my imagination a woman, while looking at us disparagingly, telling husband "look at that poor child, her parents are making her row. ""
I also remember the Central Park Zoo, and a small roundish building with a Merry-Go-Round in the Park, for I always tried to grab the Brass Ring! I also remember having my "Sweet Sixteen Party" sitting outside at the "Tavern On The Green" which was a wonderful Restaurant. Then inside Mich Saunders and his Orchestra played for those dinning and dancing, and I absolutely loved dancing with my Father!
Bren, it's possible that they don't call it "Belly Whopping" any more, we'll have to ask. If you find out before me, please let me know, and I do remember scatchy snow pants, and thanks for that memory, I'm capable of getting itchy thinking about it!
I remember having mud fights with the boys, and usually had skinned knees from those fights, or when I fell rollerskating. On one hand I was a tomboy, but there were times when I was all girl, as I took my Dolly "Betty" to the park, and we lay on a blanket, and had a thermos of Kool Aid.
As a very young adult I remember being taken to Jones Beach, and I had trouble finding the people I was with after taking a walk along the beach, as the beach was full of people. Then I remember being taken to Jones Beach one very starry evening, and the moon seemed to reflect a walkway along the water! It made quite an impression! Your next for more great memories of past times! Shelby
