In Response to Can't download anti-virus software, why? by paladin888
I am using the AVG anti-virus, because it is 1) free and 2) they have been around for a while.
They also have a version for linux: http://free.avg.com/us-en/download.prd-afl
Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions about the windows or linux install.
For windows users, here is the process:
I had to go through several screens to actually get it to download, so read the lines carefully:
Go to free.avg.com
Click the "Get it now" line next to the red arrow in the center of the screen.
Click the "Get Free Antivirus" line next to red arrow in the center of the screen.
Either way, you should end up on the AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 9.0 page.
Go to the bottom of the page and Click the Red "Download" button under the word "Free*"
You will then be on the "You're about to download AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 9.0" page
Click the Green "Download" button
You will then be on the "Welcome AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition users" page
Click the "Download Now (2.03MB)" link (next to the green and white down arrowish button.
You should end up on the page that says this:
"Thank you for downloading AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition
Your download will begin in a moment. If it doesn't, click here to try again. Still having trouble? Visit the Download Help Center."
Wait for a few seconds and you should get a screen asking what to do with the file (save or open). I generally save the file and then install it in a separate process.
The file I got today for windows is avg_free_stb_all_9_114_cnet.exe
If you do not get that screen, then your browser may have been set up to automatically download files and dump them into a specific location (usually "downloads"). If you go to that usual download location and do not see the file, then you may have to click on the "click here" portion of the line to start the download process.
Once the file has been saved on your system, then click or double-click on the filename (avg_free_stb_all_9_114_cnet.exe) to start the actual install process. It should be like any other installation you have done in the past.
You should be all vaccinated.
Hope that helps.
