I agree on "last kiss" as the best from the past. "Leader of the Pack" was another "crashing glass" song. And "running bear, loved little white dove...with a love that will never die" , then there was "Patches" (there are two songs by that name--"down by the river that runs by the coal town, there are some houses with shutters torn down, there lived a girl everybody called Patches, Patches, my darling of ole shanty town" not to be confused with "Patches, I'm depending on you son" the motown hit). "scarlet ribbons" was playing about that time too (I was in 3rd grade) "Rag doll" was a similar theme. "The Cruel war is raging" and "500 miles" are also ones I remember all us girls singing in 3rd-5th grades.
In modern tearjerkers my favorite is "Feed Jake" ("if I die before I wake, feed Jake...he's been a good dog")
and almost any Martina McBride song--"Independence Day", "Angel with a broken wing".
Willie Nelson's "7 spanish angels" and "angel flying too close to the ground" and Suzanne Vega's "my name is Luca"
Here’s a good rendition of "Last Kiss." I think the Asian guy sings it with excellent emotiom.
