With a friend or two, sit down and list all the forms of exercise you can think of. Don't quit until you have 100 or so. Then start exploring the different ways you might exercise safely. What you don't want to do is reinjure yourself. But you do need to open your thinking up to all the various ways you can get your body moving.
Do you have access to a pool? I find pool-walking is a great exercise when I am in rehab. I walk with a friend and we chatter away, so the time goes very quickly. Also, do any of the physical therapists in your area have exercise facilities? If they do and your doctor will prescribe therapy, you can exercise under the supervision of a physical therapist. This person can also prescribe a regimen for you that is safe and fun.
