Hi Everyone and Welcome,
This evening my friend and I went to see J Edgar, While many in the Audience seemed to have liked this film, those I spoke to agreed that Leonardo Di Caprio was excellent in his roll and should be nominated for an Academy Award. My friend thought it excellent, but to long.
I then wondered how this movie could have been shortened, and I couldn't find a way this could have been accomplished properly, as there were important happenings which were either left out, or just mentioned briefly, probably due to time limitations.
I did find that the psychological and conflicting aspects as to "J Edgar Hoover" were well handled, and made this movie humanizing and added interesting aspects. Judy Dench was superb as his controlling Mother. Naomi Watts as his devoted secretary was excellent too. We both enjoyed the performance,Arnie Hammer as his #2 man and companion.
Many critics seemed to pick apart this movie and it opened to very mixed reviews. I'm interested to know what you think, and look forward to your opinions? Here is what I consider an accurate description of the movie itself. http://www.newyorker.com/arts/critics/cinema/2011/11/14/111114crci_cinema_denby?currentPage=all
