RETIREMENT as defined by Merriam-Webster is
"(1b) wihtdrawal from one's position or occupation or from active working life" among others.
Well that sounds pretty clear. When I retire is after I leave work. But what else does it mean? and how many other questions does it bring up.
When can I retire? Can I afford it? What if I don't want to retire?
We all have some idea in our minds, either crystal clear or kind of fuzzy or maybe not even on the screen yet of what our retirement lives or years will be like.
I am working on my own retirement plan. I have some open issues. Everyone does, because as hard and carefully as we plan, there are so many variables that we can never cover everything. That's life. But I can do the best that I can and keep it flexible enough to change what I find I don't like and add things on the way. But the first step is making a list of what factors are important, to us. The factors and the importance of these factors are not the same for each of us, just as our lives before retirement are not the same.
So what are the plans?
