DH is a NYC high school teacher & planning to retire in 2012 or 2013. Currently, he's 62, I'm 57 & I work in retail. Background - he will have a pension + SS + annuity. I have small 401K. We've been married 31 yrs. Both children are college grads, have careers & live on their own. Issue is we disagree whether to retire in suburban NYC or take the money & run (live in cheaper location). Financially, we can afford to stay but will be limited to food shopping, CVS & doctor appts. which is what we currently do on weekends. I would like to move where cost of living is a LOT cheaper & have money to do fun things or enjoy retirement with. We both love NYC, BUT the last time we visited a museum or a Broadway show was 10 YEARS AGO. We can't afford to be a tourist here. Husband thinks he will be too old or crippled to move or enjoy retirement. He's healthy now & walks up & down staircases all day in school & eats healthy. Like I said - advice/suggestions PLEASE!
