Cindy, i totally agree with your post and opinion on AMTRAK. We take the train up and down the East Coast quite often. We also rode the train across the country, from Washington, DC (where we live) to Seattle, Washington where my wife's family lives. Two and a half days out and back were totally enjoyable, the service was terrific and the wine and cheese party was amazing and totally unexpected. We met some of the most interesting people, and our travel was comfortable and restful.
As you say, our nation is beautiful and seeing it at the train window level rather than looking down at the earth from 35,000 feet in an airplane.
I am 72 and my wife is 53. We hope to make a lot more train trips. Especially considering that I retired a week ago!!!
In Response to Re: Amtrak Customer Service, Excellent:
I am now living in New Orleans. Before Moving I took the Amtrack from Albuquerque, Nm
to Anahiem , Calif. frequently. I really enjoy the trip. It gives me time to pause. I can listen to music or watch a movie on my laptop. I love the dinning area where I become aquainted with others that I am sharing a table with. It is interesting finding out what part of the country they are from and where they are headed. what they think of train travel. We have a Beautiful Country and it looks wonderful from the Observation Room of the Train. I like the rocking movement when I am lying down in my sleeper and the view from my window as the sun sets. I like passing through small town America.I don't have to stand in long lines and I get to bring more luggage (smile). I have been flying since I was 18 y/o I am now 67 I don't care for all the rush. I don't care if it takes me longer to get where I am going the Journey is GREAT!
