Don't know if anyone is still reading this forum or not, but just in case, I thought it might be nice to let you all know what a treasure we have in the Acela train from AMTRAK.
My wife takes it up to Philadelphia from DC Union Station about once or twice a month to work out of her employer's Philadelphia office. We have made the trip together a couple of times and just recently I took it up to New York City for a meeting.
What a grand train!!! Smooth and reasonably quiet. A terrific snack bar and dining facility are available on the train. It has the capacity of speeds in excess of 150 mph but must restrict its speed over much of the rail bed due to lousy trackage. Since Congress will not allow Amtrak to build their own road beds they must use freight rail lines.
But that Acela train is a marvelous way to do. Wish we had the ability to travel on a train like that from coast to coast, over thousands of miles, like the Chinese can do now and the Europeans have been able to do for years.
Oh well, I will continue to ride the Acela between Washington and Boston (yep will be headed up there in the Spring.)
