That is just wonderful.. are you thinking of making it an annual event ?
In any case, it is sometimes surprising how many wonderful people we all know and no doubt your son was no exception.
I am looking forward to reading all about your adventure. Thank you for including us in your news : )
Yes Diane, it will become an annual thing. This is actually the second golf outing in his name. The first occurred on the 23rd of May 2009, just a few days after he died. The "Friends of Dawg" or FOD as they refer to themselves, organized it because they knew my son would not want a bunch of weeping and sad faces. So we had the first annual golf outing for the DAWG which was his nickname and a memorial service after the golf outing. Actually the memorial service was a celebration of the lilfe of Mike. Over 200 people showed up from all across the country and internationally. I was shocked at the response and turnout.
Now, we are holding the second annual. There is one group that want to move it to his birthday in October so we will discuss it then. More a happy instance than a sad one. Birthday versus death day.
We wish the Amtrak train would go to Gainesville, FL again, but there has been no train passenger service for that city in decades. Another truly sad situation. Think of all the collge kids that could have the pleasure of riding the train to their university....
