We really can't use rail passes here in the USA, because it is my understanding that they are not available for sleeper car accommodations and when we travel, (more than up and down the East Coast), we always get a sleeper if the trip is overnight. For instance, any trip that we take into the Mid West, will have to go through Chicago and our travel from DC's Union Station to Chicago is an over night trip.
But we certainly will look into the Eurorail passes.
We will be taking my family (including the grand daughters) on the Amtrak this June to North Myrtle Beach, they are really excited about it. That jaunt is about 7 hours and we will pick up rental cars in Florence, SC for the final 55+ miles from there to the Condo in MB.
Looking foward to restarting our trips to New York and Boston. But we don't travel with a frequency that would make the rail passes here to be cost effective.
Guess we will just stick with our 15% senior's discount for now.... lol.
I see. Wonder how popular the passes are for European tourists coming here? Interesting. I would not give up a sleeper for sure : )
It is too cool that you are including your grand daughters in your train travels. I am sure they will love it. Just the right amount of time and very convenient. It is funny, my sister and I introduced our dad to the trains... at first he was really skeptical but after that first trip in his own little compartment he was a believer and loves the train. : )
This will be the first year that I can use the senior discount... I emailed my sister to remind her LOL
