In Response to RE: CHINA'S HIGH-SPEED RAIL NETWORK by libbyboi
I really enjoyed your detailed post about your memories of train travel. My first memories of train travel go back to my grandmother telling me about taking the train as a girl. She was from Prague and train travel in
Europe is common and quite good from all accounts I have heard or read. She talked in detail about the family traveling and the dining cars with their fancy tables and all of her wonderful memories.
When I was in my twenties a friend told me about taking the train from Cleveland out to California. It sounded wonderful. My sister and I took our first train to New York sometime after that and were sold from that first trip. I have taken lots since including one to the west coast. I was even able to take my grown son on his first trip this past December to New York for the Christmas sights. I was apprehensive because he enjoys driving and I wondered how he would like the train. But he did enjoy it and we had a great time. We did do sleepers. I am not sure how he would have liked coach. But all in all it was great.
Thanks for sharing your memories.
