The Bride and I made a trip to New York City the last week in April to attend a fund raiser gala for Meningoccal Diseases (meningitis). We took the Amtrak from Washington Union Station in DC to the Penn Station in NYC. As usual it was a terrific experience. Arrived at the station early to check in and pick up our tickets (I always buy on line if possible). Then we boarded and exactly on time, the train began to move out of Union Station headed north. We took the regional train rather than the Acela and it was really a nice comfortable ride up. Read a book, picked up beverages and a snack in the cafe car and snoozed a tad also.
The Meningitis "Give the Kids A Shot" was well attended and Richard Thomas (John boy on television), was presented with the Nancy Springer Annual Humanitarian Award. He still looks pretty much like when he was playing John boy (an old guy like me can just be so angry at him for that). Many celebrities were there from movies, stage etc.
On Tuesday morning we left our hotel and rode a short taxi trip down to Penn Station to board our return train. It also left on time and the seating was just as comforatable for the ride back. Coffee was excellent, sodas later in the trip along with snacks were also great. We arrived at Washington Union Station on time also and headed home. A
Another great Amtrak train trip concluded. We love riding those passenger trains, makes the airline travel look like a torture rack.
