In Response to TAXES ON SENIORS by ASTRAEA
I really don't care what you or anyone else does or did or are doing. We are having a discussion here. And that's my opinion.
It's not healthy for most to be retired at such a young age, physically or mentally. You retired early and that's your business. I'm sorry about your mother. My father died at age 62. Never did get to retire, But neither I nor any of my family ever used that experience to determine our goals for retirement life. I have 2 sisters who are in their late 70's still working 40 hours a week, another just retired at age 76. So I have ,I think, good examples to have . Among them I am a slacker, retiring before the age of 70.
I have friends who retired early and gained 30 pounds and did nothing all day. So eventual they became unhealthy , because of their inactivity ,that could have been avoided with regular activity. Now they are a burden on the healthcare system, so that does affect me.
I have seen it first hand. We just sold our summer home at the Jersey shore in an "over 55" community. Our plan was to retire there, but our retired friends in that community ,our age ,who are mostly early retirees are all ailing because of inactivity we " saw the light" and got out of there.
My wife will probably work until she drops dead and I have already been asked to take my old job back at age 69 and I may do that on a limited basis, if not there somewhere. as soon as I get all the honey do's done on our 100 year old home.
But I won't sit around doing nothing. And that's just my opinion.
