DO YOU APPERECIATE THE LAW OF PHYSICS?
A VERY BIG THANKS TO MICHIGAN MEMBER MIKE PARTRIDGE WHO SENT IN THIS BIT OF HUMOR, WHICH WAS FOWARDED FROM A SENIOR-LEVEL PERSON AT CHRYSLER. THE DAT ON THIS NOTE WAS SUNDAY JULY 19, 2009.
Monday morning, I attended a breakfast meeting where the speaker/guest was David E. Cole, Chairman Center for Auto-motive Research (CAR abd Professor at the University of Michigan). you have all likley heard CAR quoted, or refeffed to in the auto indresty news lately.
Mr. Cole, who is an Engineer by training, told many stories of the difficulty of working with the folks that the Obama administration has sent to save the auto industry. There have been many meetings where a 30+ year expeerienced automotive expert has to listen to a newcomer to the industry, someone with zero manfacturing experience, zero auto industry experence, zero finance experience and zero engineering experience, tell them how to run there business.
Mr. Coles favorite story is as follows:
There was a team of Obama people speeking to Mr. Cole (engineer, automotive experience of 40+ years, and chairman of CAR). They were explaining to Mr. Cole that the auto companies needed to make a car that was electric and liquid natural gas (LGN) with enough combined fuel to go 500 miles so we wouldn't "need" so many gas stations (a whole other topic). They were quoting BTU's of LNG and battery life that they had looked up on some WEB-site.
Mr. Cole explained that to do this you would need a TRUNK FULL of batteries and a LNG tank as big as the car to make that happen, and that there were problems related to the LAW of PHYSICS that prevented them from.....
The Obama person interrupted and said (and I am quoting here): "These laws of Physis? Whose rules are these? We need to change that." (some of the others wrote down the law name so they could look it up.) We have the Congress and adminstration. We can repeal that law, amend it, or use an exective order to get rid of that problem. That is why we are here, to fix these sort of issues".
............THESE ARE THE SAME PEOPLE WHO ARE GOING TO FIX HEALTHCARE?!!!
Currently Insurance companies are to a great degree making decisions that only a doctor should make. I don't think this administration wants to "run the medical" they simply want to make it more affordable and thus more available to everyone. I sold insurance for a number of years, group health insurance. I can tell you that an insurance company will not take a small employer group with and employee who has a sick child. By sick I mean something like cystic fibrosis, heart condition etc. I saw employees who had been good employees let go because they had a sick child, that sick child was keeping the owner of the company from switching carriers and lowering his premiums. This is just one example of the situation our system of health care puts people in. I have many sad stories. Something must be done. However, I am not sure that this well meaning administration has come up with the correct answer. I believe they should have spent more time considering the options the whole system needs an overhaul, not just the area of coverage.
