Is the public educated enough or smart enough to elect our officials? Well let me say we do manage to elect our officials on a popularity type of vote. I think that we can be concuious enough to vote our feelings on issuses if need be! Also, I did not mean to get rid of all our politicians as once, my idea is to limit anyone to two terms and then out! We do that with the President, why not the rest of them before thay get too comfortable with any of the lobbist. How do you have the authority to decide thaat our voting on the extreme bill would not result in the best outcome?
The best outcome in this Health Bill is for our elders being taken care of, not sent home to die without the medications needed to live.
I personally think people should have to take a test to register to vote, just the way non-American born people have to take a test for citizenship. Then I'd have a higher degree of confidence in voters handling more complex issues!
Members of the House of Representatives only have 2 year terms, compared to Senators' 6-year terms of office. That forces House members to spend a greater % of their time in office focusing on their next election campaign. I think their terms should be raised to 3 or 4 years to start with. As far as term limits, it takes all of them time to "learn the ropes" procedurally and become familiar with all the issues. Leadership positions are based on experience, which only come with time, so the idea of having a 2-term, 4 year limit for a Congressman now, would mean that people would be in leadership positions with less than 4 years experience .. which really isn't practical or effective.
