I belong to other communities in this site, but I've been reading your thread on healthcare. I don't have medical insurance and right now I'm not worried about it. I can expound on this some other time, but so far I've been able to care for any of my ills...knock on wood.www.aarp.org/community/editor/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/wink_smile.gif" />
My concern is this; I'm a caregiver and I had to relocate from OR to AK to find work because of cut backs in services for the disabled and elderly by the SDS ( Senior and Disabled Services ) , state run program, who I was employed by.
I had clients who need minimal assistance in their homes and they weren't the ones effected by the cut-backs. I thought, well maybe it's just on my watch ( lack of a better term), and the clients who desperately....not exagerating here,....Desperately needed help in their homes and transportation, and .....just daily needs that most of us take for granted, had their hours severly cut back....to the point ..that I could not ignore or just leave their home because I wasn't getting paid for the hours over the time they were allowed. You don't just walk out leaving somebody hanging.... and stranded without help; I don't anyway.
The Governor , I think, want the elderly to be dumped into nursing homes when they cannot care for themselves. I don't know what he's thinking honestly, but he's not using the brain he was given.....and I almost wrote something else....but not in mixed company.
Any facility is going to cost far more then help inside their own homes. You would think families would take care of their own, but from what I see, it's not common. Families in many cases, help with the finances that are needed to stay in facilities....over and above the Medicare, Medicaid, and other programs, but I don't see a majority of families having their parents and grandparents living within the family unit.....it seems that is just not possible anymore ?? I also have seen clients warehoused ( again, lack of a better term ), in adult foster homes or nursing homes and rarely if at all visited by their families.
I know most of you are speaking of actual medical care, but I fear a national health plan will control senior care and decide which person is WORTH caring for.
There is no final draft on the plan, and we all need to make our voices heard or they will do as they darn well please.....you know that.
Ok, can I stay in here, after this??
At least 500 of the top AARP crooks should step down in Disgrace.
