The title of this topic intrigued me. I recently lost my job and the depression I feel over losing it is immobilizing me.
When I was a young woman, I used to always keep a journal of my thoughts and hopes, I couldnt imagine not writing. But it has been years since I did that. I do not even feel like I want to...but this depression needs to be brought under control. (yes, I have seen a doctor and a therapist..taken medication...blah, blah, the whole thing) I was wondering if writing a journal again would help. How do I "make myself" start this?
May I offer a few suggestions on getting started that I received when I took a free writing course offered by the Community caregivers in my area, writing is a way of taking care of yourself.
First ,buy a spiril bound note book, the less expensive material you use the more you will use it.
Second, write on only one side of the paper.
Third, write for a period of time daily , write as things happen. writing helps to sort things out.
The instructor said that the "opposite of depression is expression!"
Hope these suggestions help,Good Luck!
