How are you finding the job market in your area? There are so many differences in markets from region to region, or even town-to-town. It seems, anecdotally, that part-time jobs have increased, or at least held steady (companies need not pay benes and can control staffing needs by hiring temps).
The one, long-running temp job my wife got was due to medical leave for 3 months. There is always a percentage of that going on, I would think.
We are about 30 min north of the beach, so our job market has alot of resort type jobs for hotels, restaurants, etc. There are a couple of hospitals and of course schools. Nurses and teachers are always in demand. There are alot of jobs that do not have benefits and pay is lower here than other places I've lived. Many people come down here from all over the country for the warmer weather and find it's not what they think. They have a difficult time making a living (unless they have retirement income), although there are some good opportunites - you really have to look. Also housing and rentals are high here, plus insurance can be high and difficult to get (due to the hurricanes).
The price you pay for living near the beach! But the beaches are beautiful! Fishing and boating are good! People do come down here because we are on the Gulf and do have the most beautiful beaches
