I was reading in the 2 books Jessica Fellowes has written, how the episodes of "DA' are filmed. I think you know, there are 2 locations,Highclere Castle for 'family',Ealing Studios outside London for 'servants. They are fimed in 'blocks' of 2 scenes, which takes 2 weeks to finish.Season 1 was filmed in sequence, not seasons 2,3. For ex,from season 2, episodes 1&3 were filmed together. The camera angle for family scenes, they use a wide lense,'servants hand-held cameras.
In this past Sun's NYTimes, interesting article about how some broadcasters rearrange the episodes."From a creative standpoint,PBS viewers see a slightly different version of 'DA' from those in Britain, after the producers make minor tweaks to accommodate the 'masterpiece' time slot.,.Broadcasters want to split the season into 6 episodes instead of 9 that were shown in Britain".We get 7,actually its 9 if you count the 2 hr episodes on 1/6 and 2/10
I have the UK versions of the show which I prefer because PBS does cut out/edit things. I noticed this when season 2 was rebroadcast in Dec. For ex,when Anna& Bates get married, you only hear him say his vows not hers which was odd. I thought some of the show's addicts would like this info.
Any comments? Sue
