In Response to RE: BUILT...My New Favorite Reality Show! by ASTRAEA
It's a light-hearted diversion...and another case where the viewer has to suspend disbelief. We can't be so literal in our observations and criticisms. Life is not like that...reality or not, it's still a literary "portrayal."
I wonder if the modern housewife who dresses like that on the reality shows will become the butt of jokes and derisive remarks a la "June Cleaver."
Come on...we know no one dresses like that to hang around the house, buy groceries, take the dog to the vet/groomer, cook, clean, etc.
Adina is a "trophy wife" and nothing more. I didn't see any signs of a cook or housekeeper, a pool boy or yard man...but I am sure they are on the payroll. When the Barbara's have a romantic dinner at home, does Adina cook it or hire a chef? Do they ever eat anything at home?
You've seen most of the RH shows...the only one of them I see dressed up on a consistent basis is Lisa Van der Pump. Even Porsha of RHOA dresses down sometimes. Besides, most of these women are having their make-up done for them...they have a schedule and know when they are filming. Who do they think they are kidding when they appear dressed to the nines for welcoming their children home from school or any such mundane task?
One thing I like about Jerseylicious is that one of the main characters has been seen sitting around with her girlfriends without a speck of make-up on. That's real and I've seen some of the others do it as well...even though the show is about rivals in the world of beauty salons, hair and make-up.
With the likes of Adina and others of her ilk, the shows could almost be called "reality situation comedy."
There's nothing edifying about some of these shows. It's just "mind candy."
