For those of you who watch 'Downtown Abbey',thought you would be interested in this. One of the "DA" websites,downtononline.com has been ordered to shut down on legal grounds. This website was terrific because everything you wanted to know about the show, plotlines, characters, pictures etc was there. Its how I found out major storylines for Season 3,the website is in England.
I was searching this morning for any new info about Season 4 ran across this Nicole, the woman who created the site, the Facebook account was sent a letter from ITV,/Carnival executives to stop &close everything or be sued for using downton abbey name. I'm not quite sure the legal term, think its either copyright infridgement or public domain.. Nicole stated in her email she created the site using her own money for other "DA' addicts around the world, very upset all of a sudden this has happened.I think the site has been online since Season 1.
A big communication company,Comcast bought NBC Universal which is part owner of ITV/Carnival the distributors of the show along with PBS. I think its unfair all of a sudden to threaten somebody with legal action, when the site has been there for couple years with no problems in the past. Another site I look at is downtonabbeyaddicts.com. I think the 'head honchos' are becoming greedy knowing they have a mega hit on their hands. I wonder if they will go after that website too? Any thoughts? Sue
