Today I came upon 2 more posts in the cancer support forum in which someone is trying to sell something to cancer survivors. Some time ago there was also one in this very group....well-meaning, I believe, but still trying to sell something. Often the posts start by saying the person is an AARP member and/or a cancer survivor. I feel there should be a separate place to post such topics. This is where we post support topics among ourselves. I tried to contact AARP about this but my message was wiped out twice saying there had been an error. I am not about to type it a third time. As with all things, this is my opinion only and each person is free to do/write what they please.
I for one, agree 100% with you on this one. I complained a few months back about one who started out about their own ordeal with cancer and then proceeded to slip slowly into what seemed to be an advertissment. Not only that but a "FREE" ad reaching exactly the group who would use the product and bypassing all others. A good idea maybe, but this is not what the group is about. The person also gave an indication as to a certain percentage of the profits going to Cancer Research. That always gets a few extra points. Maybe I too skeptible (sp) but that's what the world has come to in this day and age. I believe we all know more than a few places where we can donate time or money and know exactly how much of it goes to the intended recipient. I give to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital. That's not and ad. I'm not including any phone number, URL, or any other dirrections on how to give to this org.
Someone might want to build a group where items were for sale which would benefit people with all kinds of ailments.....Oh, I forgot, that would be against the agreement we are all supposed to go by.
Thank you Tiara for pointing this out to some who may not have noticed. Sometimes I wonder if the one who posts such Topics as you describe have even dealt with cancer and the issues it brings upon us other than to sell us something we "need".
