This Thanksgiving, More People Are Driving Than Flying
Millions of Americans are hitting the roads for the holidays this year to avoid the rising concerns and delays over the new airport security procedures. Rather than subjecting themselves to new scanners or pat-downs, more people have chosen to avoid the airports all together.
AAA estimates that 42 million Americans will travel to visit loved one this Thanksgiving holiday. Of these 42 million, 40 million are expected to drive to their destinations. That means 95% of Americans will be traveling by car rather than airplane. “That’s the largest share of automobile travel ever, for any holiday,” says AAA’s Troy Green.
Take extra caution when driving, and prepare for busy, congested roads. Plan your route ahead of time, and check the weather and traffic conditions. Also plan an alternate route if possible. As always, limit your driving distractions like cell phones, texting, and eating. Be prepared and be safe.
