Hi Leah - -
Great topic! Hope the snow wasn't difficult for you.
These are all great tips for owners. I have one more to add. That is Armorall. It is primarily designed to reinvigorate rubber products, especially those exposed to weathering such as windshield wipers, weatherstripping, and tires. It comes in a spray bottle. All that is needed is a cloth rag.
I have sprayed some on a cloth and wiped the door edge rubber (on the inside edge that touches the door frame.) By placing some on there before there is freezing weather, you can get your doors open once they are unlocked.
Armorall can also be used on windshield wipers to clean and renew their edge. This also prevent squeaking. Some Bon Ami on the windshield also helps remove oils and dirt accumulated between rains.
Once, I accidentally got some Armorall on my windshield. I wiped and wiped until I got it all off. Later on, I had to drive through rain and found that the Armorall coating had dispersed the rain while I drove such that I did not have to turn on my wipers.
Naturally, this product has to be reapplied periodically as water/weather deteriorates it. Maybe some other readers have some recommendations that they can mention here. Hope that helps!
