In Response to It seem hard at first............. by tgee25
I too am raising grandchildren which I had to rescue from the foster care system in Alabama. My husband and I were living in Washington, I had recently completed grad school and was establishing myself in my new profession. It was a hard fought battle to have the children placed with us and we are still at the mercy of Alabama DHR who are refusing to give us legal guardianship or terminate parental rights and let us adopt the children.
My extended family also offered to assist i teh beginning but is hasn't materialized, my husband and I have spent one weekend away from teh kids in the 26 months we have had them and that was to attend a foster care training seminar.
Am I bitter, not at all, I have grown used to the noise and mess and miss the bickering among the four little ones when they are out of the house. I love them and want only what's best. They didn't ask to be born or have incapacitated parents.....so when I begin to feel sorry for my loss of freedom I just remember why we did this and after all what's another 11 years of my life!!!!!!!
