I can see how that would be true. I used to work at a major metropolitan hospital and stress was a high factor. I can think of at least 3 times when it happened that a dog was in the hospital.
One day, while at lunch I found a small poodle in the middle of the street outside. I brought him inside and put him under my desk while I made calls around the hospital to see if anyone knew about him. I thought he might belong to a patient. Needless to say, most of the hospital came to see about the dog. I got little work done that afternoon, but there were faces I'd never seen with a smile on them before
That was the only time the dog was in my office, but I heard the same reports from the other offices involved. It certainly helped my stress when I could get home and be greeted by my own.
