After reading all of the posts on dogs aging I feel somewhat better about mine. Had her since 7 wks old and now she is 13. Have had dogs all my life and never ran into this before. Healthy as can be in all her years never needed a vet except for yearly visits. Been a joy to have. Last month I noticed she was walking and running on 3 legs. Took her to the vet, had xrays and nothing showed. Did extensive blood work and just the normal glassy eyes, thyroid problem and arthritis. Came back in 2 wks and he felt the leg again and discovered she tore a ligament. After hearing how dogs have trouble with steps I felt much better. She always been a puppy and no one believed her age. Now I have to carry her down stairs and lift her into the car. While this is not common at least I see with aging some of this happens anyhow I feel much better as I will not have surgery at her age and she is learning not to be so independent. Thanks all for the interesting posts.
