In Response to RE: Cute Children's Books Staring DOGS! by FreeIreland
All the steps that 'G'ma' takes so lovingly with her grandchild are being taught in teacher colleges today! (Of course, Grandma knows best!) They're called 'reading strategies'. We've always known it's just the way to read a book right! While it's wonderful that the kids who do not get this attention in their homes are getting it at school, the cuddling and bonding when you're reading together creates readers for life!
Just read a great little book: The Two Bobbies. Set in post-Katrina New Orleans, it's a (true) tale (non-tail) of left-behind pets. With a good ending. Not a dry eye in the house here after hearing this one. Teenagers included. It brings to light, in a hopeful way, that our country has a problem we need to solve, together. Too many homeless critters. An excellent starting point for thought, discussion and hopefully, positive action! Humane Educators: take note! DDC
