In Response to RE: If Your Dog Has Allergies by patcharis
Suggestions? I'd never walk outside my own fenced yard without pepper spray to discourage vicious dogs, who are sometimes followed by vicious owners outraged at my reluctance to become their darling's chew toy. You'll hear some people claim it doesn't work on pits, but au contraire. I've saved my own neck at least 3 times from pits alone. (Responsible owners, please spare me unwarranted charges of hating the breed, because I don't. But once again, I'm nobody's chew toy.)
As to allergies: I just remembered a vet telling me one time that if you get a dog from a breed known to lean toward allergies, you should buy from a local breeder. The worst trouble I ever had was with an Alsatian some friends in law enforcement had imported and then gave her to me when they found her allergies impossible to control. Just being from a different region in America can be enough to tip the scales.
