Took my two youngest - Neika - male is 1/12 yrs old - 75 lbs and Kiera - female is two years old and about 45 lbs. - to Johnson Park in Raleigh yesterday. It's been a long time since I've had young dogs - my other two are 15 yrs old. and have a question. Usually Neika walks well on leash and is well behaved. Yesterday he was so excited and just pulled and pulled. No matter what I did it made no difference. He was fine as usual with other dogs but had to mark every tree he went by while in the past he never bothered to do that. I'm wondering if that's because he's starting to mature. Has anyone seen a change like that with their dogs around that age?
Great advise from the experts on this site! Another question is: Do you walk them every day? If they don't go daily the excitement level is very high and this could explain Neika. The more you take him, daily if possible, the better he will be.
If you haven't already done so,
catch Ceasar Milan on National Geographic TV cable; his show the
Dog Whisperer is on Friday's at 8:00pm, west coast time. He
is awesome and amazing in his knowledge of dogs. I've had
animals my entire life and have learned so much from him. He
had a show the other night with a dog that acted like Neika.
It was wonderful what he taught Neika's owners to correct the problem.
Enjoy those beauties.
